10 September 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has already repatriated a total of 729 undocumented Filipinos from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since the amnesty program there began last month.
The DFA welcomed this morning the fifth batch composed of 105 overseas Filipino workers from Dubai—91 women and 14 men, with four minors—who availed themselves of the amnesty program of the UAE.
The DFA, through the Office of Migrant Workers Affairs, shouldered the exit fines and other penalties, airline tickets to Manila and to the respective provinces of the repatriates. The DFA also provided financial assistance of P5,000.00 to each of the repatriate as part of the government’s “all-out support” for the returning OFWs.
Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes assured undocumented Filipinos in the UAE that the Consulate General and the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi are ready to assist all those who wish to return to the Philippines under this program.
The DFA continues to encourage qualified Filipinos to take advantage of the UAE’s amnesty program before the 31 October 2018 deadline, to give the Embassy and the Consulate General ample time to process the necessary documents for their repatriation. END
