Statement: On the Suicide Bombing in Tripoli
11 September 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reminded Filipinos in Libya to remain vigilant in the wake of a terrorist suicide bomb attack in Tripoli on Monday.
The DFA called on the 1,800 Filipinos in the Libyan capital to restrict their movement and continue to exercise caution following the attack by Islamic extremists at the National Oil Corporation headquarters in Dhara district.
Chargé d’Affaires Mardomel Melicor of the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli said six suicide bombers carried out the attack that left at least two persons dead. He said there are no Filipinos working for the agency.
Chargé d’Affaires Melicor said members of the Filipino Community should not let their guard down despite the halt in factional fighting in Tripoli following a United Nations-brokered ceasefire. He said the Embassy remains ready to assist any Filipino who wants to return to the Philippines. END
