Statement: On Crashlanding of Air Niugini Flight in Micronesia
29 September 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is providing assistance to nine Filipino seafarers who were onboard the Air Niugini flight that crash landed in Micronesia on Friday. One passenger was reported missing but the other 46 passengers and crew were safe.
In a report to Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano, Consul General Marciano C. de Borja of the Philippine Consulate General in Agana said the Filipinos were on their way to the Philippines for a vacation when their plane crash landed in a lagoon as they attempted to land in Chuuk Island airport.
Consul General De Borja said the nine will be taking other flights to Manila. He said the Consulate General is coordinating with the airline for the recovery of their luggage. END
