Statement: On Typhoon Trami in Japan

01 October 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is checking on the condition of the members of the Filipino Community after Typhoon Trami battered Western Japan on Sunday.

Ambassador to Japan Jose Laurel V reported to Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano that the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo and the Consulate General in Osaka are in touch with the members of the Filipino community in the area.

So far, there are no reports of injuries or casualties among the estimated 4,760-strong Filipino community in Okinawa and Wakayama Prefectures and Shikoku Islands.

Authorities said that at least 84 were injured as a result of the typhoon that also disrupted train and air services. Trami has left Japan's area of responsibility, and transport and train services have resumed.

Ambassador Laurel said both the Embassy and the Consulate General are monitoring the situation and stands ready to provide assistance to affected Filipino nationals. END
