DFA Statement FB preview

02 October 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Oslo, in coordination with Filipino priests and the Filipino Community in Stockholm, has organized a memorial mass for Mailyn Conde Sinambong on Tuesday.

The mass for Mailyn will be held at the Heliga Trefaldighets Catholic Church in Järfällavägen 150, 177 41 Järfälla, Sweden at 7 p.m.

Consul General Ma. Elena Algabre has flown in from Oslo and is now in Stockholm to help make arrangements for the repatriation of Mailyn’s remains and meet with the lawyer and prosecutor handling the case.

Initial information gathered by the Embassy show that Mailyn, a 28-year-old mother of two boys aged 10 and 4, succumbed to injuries she sustained after she was severely beaten allegedly by her husband, Steve Abou Bakr Aalam, a 50-year-old Swedish actor-director, at their residence in Kista, northwest of Stockholm, on the evening of Sunday, 23 September. The reports said Aalam has been taken into custody and will be charged with murder.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano had earlier assured Mailyn’s family in the Philippines that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will assist in the repatriation of her remains and in obtaining justice for her death. END
