Statement: On Fatal Stabbing of OFW in Jeddah

02 October 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) was notified today of the fatal stabbing of a Filipino by another Filipino in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah said the fatality is a 29-year-old from Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao who works as a family driver in Jeddah.

Consul General Edgar Badajos said the victim was fatally stabbed by a fellow Filipino who also works as a driver for the same Saudi family. Consul General Badajos said the assailant, 34, single, from Capiz, was arrested by police immediately after the incident and remains in detention.

The incident happened on Sunday when the two allegedly engaged in a fistfight in front of the house of their employer that ended in the victim getting fatally stabbed by his fellow driver.

Consul General Badajos said the Consulate General and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Jeddah will extend full assistance to both Filipinos and their families. END
