No Filipinos Hurt in Hokkaido Earthquake

05 October 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported that no Filipinos were hurt in the magnitude 5.3 earthquake that hit northern Hokkaido on Friday morning.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano was informed by Ambassador to Japan Jose Laurel V that the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo continues to monitor the situation of the 1,800 Filipinos in the island which was also rocked by an earthquake on 6 September.

He said no tsunami warning was issued by authorities and the Chitose Airport in Hokkaido is operating normally. After a brief suspension, Shinkansen trains have resumed operations. END
