Bulletin: On the Death of Filipino Cyclist in Thailand
26 October 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) extends its condolences to the family and friends of Filipino cyclist Russel Perez, who lost his life following an apparent hit-and-run accident while competing at the Audax Randonneurs Thailand cycling event in Bangkok on 23 October 2018.
In her report to the DFA Home Office, Ambassador to Thailand Mary Jo A. Bernardo-Aragon said the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok has corresponded with authorities in Thailand to underscore the desire of the family for justice. It has also assisted in the repatriation of his remains to the Philippines.
Ambassador Aragon said the Embassy is coordinating with Thai authorities and will continue to monitor developments of the case.
Reports said Perez was 50 kilometers from the finish line when he was struck down by a van. He died while being rushed to the hospital. END
