On the Death of OFW in Riyadh
05 November 2018 — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) expresses its sympathy to the family of a Filipina worker in Saudi Arabia who died reportedly of poisoning last week.
The Department, at the same time, assures the family of Emerita Gannaban, a 44-year-old household service worker from Kalinga Province, that it would take a closer look into her death as well as allegations that she had been maltreated.
The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh is in touch with relatives of Gannaban, who was deployed to Saudi Arabia only in June, as well as with her employer and recruiters in Manila and in Riyadh in connection with arrangements for the repatriation of her remains as soon as police authorities conclude their investigation into her death.
Chargé d’Affaires Christopher Patrick Aro said the Embassy is waiting for the results of the autopsy conducted on Gannaban, who passed away at the Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital in Riyadh on 29 October. END
