Bulletin: On the Protests in France
05 December 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is advising Filipinos in France as well as those in the Philippines who are traveling to Paris to exercise caution in view of the violent protests that have been taking place in the French capital and other areas during the past several weekends.
The Philippine Embassy in Paris said Filipinos should avoid going to the Champs-Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, Tuileries, Place Vendome, Avenue Friedland, Avenue Kléber, and other parts of France where demonstrations are expected to take place on Saturday. The Embassy said Filipinos should also not participate in the protests against the imposition of environmental tax on fuel and rising gas prices.
Ambassador to France Ma. Teresa Lazaro said more than 400 protesters have already been arrested and charged in connection with the violence.
Ambassador Lazaro said the Embassy is closely monitoring the situation. She said Filipinos who may require emergency assistance may call +33620592515. END
