On the Bombing of a Tourist Bus in Egypt
29 December 2018 - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) today advised Filipinos planning to travel to Egypt to exercise a higher level of vigilance when visiting tourist destinations there.
The DFA issued the advisory shortly after the Philippine Embassy in Cairo reported the deaths of three Vietnamese tourists and the wounding of 10 others in a bomb attack in the Giza Region where the pyramids are located.
The bombing, which took place in Haram district, also claimed the life of an Egyptian tour guide and wounded the driver.
Ambassador to Egypt Sulpicio Confiado Jr. said a roadside bomb hidden in a wall exploded as the bus carrying 14 Vietnamese tourists went by.
Ambassador Confiado said that in addition to tourists, the Embassy’s advisory covers the estimated 5,000 Filipinos residing and working in Egypt. END
