On the Magnitude 6.8 Earthquake that Hit Chilean Coast

02 October 2019 — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through the Philippine Embassy in Santiago, is currently monitoring the aftermath of a magnitude 6.8 earthquake that struck off the coast of Chile on 29 September 2019 at precisely 10:57 A.M. (Chile Time).

Ambassador to Chile Ma. Teresita C. Daza confirmed that no Filipino was directly affected by the earthquake, following a monitoring activity it has conducted with leaders and coordinators of Filipino communities to ascertain the safety and welfare of overseas Filipinos in Chile. Currently, there are an estimated 860 Filipino migrants in Chile.

The Embassy will continue to monitor the situation in the area and is ready to provide assistance as needed. END
