Statement: DFA Mourns Passing of Mr. Erik Belfrage, Philippine Honorary Consul General in Stockholm, Sweden

20 April 2020 - It is with profound regret and sorrow that the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs announces the passing of Mr. Erik Belfrage, Philippine Honorary Consul General in Stockholm, Sweden, on Saturday, 18 April 2020, due to COVID-19.

Mr. Belfrage, a successful businessman and former diplomat in the Swedish Foreign Service, headed the Philippine Consulate General in Stockholm from 2013 until his untimely demise. His efforts helped Philippines-Sweden relations expand significantly in the last few years, culminating in both countries’ decision to re-open their respective Embassies – the Embassy of Sweden in Manila in 2016 and the Philippine Embassy in Stockholm set for later this year. He has also helped many Filipinos during his term of service.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs mourns the passing of its valued and esteemed honorary member, and a true friend of the country. The Department and the Embassy offer their deepest condolences to his family. Mr. Belfrage is survived by wife Anna, brother Frank and children. END
