PH Embassy in Beijing Launch Campaign vs Violence Against Women with “Bagahe” Film Screening

BEIJING 04 January 2019 — To launch the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), the Philippine Embassy in Beijing held a screening of the film "Bagahe" at the Embassy's Sentro Rizal on 30 November 2018.
In his opening remarks, Consul General Ivan Frank Olea highlighted the active participation of the Philippines in the global community in raising awareness of each and every individual, and having concerted efforts in preventing violence against women, achieving gender equality, and empowering women all over the world.
He added that November 30 is a Philippine national day that celebrates one of the country’s national heroes, Gat. Andres Bonifacio who valiantly fought for Philippine independence.
The movie '"Bagahe" is about a former Overseas Filipina Worker who is being implicated in a crime that occurred during her return and is brought by authorities to Manila to prove her innocence. Zig Madamba directed the movie which has won awards locally and internationally.
Professors and students taking up Philippine Studies from the Peking University (PKU) and Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), and Filipino students in Beijing attended the screening. END
