ROME 11 March 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in Rome kicked off the celebration of National Women’s Month with a flag-raising ceremony on 04 March 2019, attended by Embassy personnel and clients, followed by a talk by Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco on the reason behind the celebration at the Embassy’s consular section.
During the flag ceremony, the Embassy showed a special video released by the Philippine Commission on Women. The video was meant to accompany the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, and featured remarkable Filipino women across history. This was followed by the “Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat ng Pilipinas.”
Ambassador Nolasco then addressed the over 50 Filipinos in the consular section on the meaning of the National Women’s Month theme, “We Make Change Work for Women”, with emphasis on how the Embassy supports women empowerment through its various programs. He explained the salient provisions of the Magna Carta of Women or Republic Act No. 9710 contained in the flyers, which were distributed to Filipino clients after the flag-raising ceremony.
The Ambassador likewise announced a series of activities that would be conducted by the Embassy in connection with the month-long celebrations, such as the provision of special lanes for women on the International Women’s Day on 08 March 2019, the conduct of a program called “Juan for Juana” on 14 March 2019, the activities by the Embassy on social media to advocate for women empowerment, and the wearing of purple office attire by the Embassy personnel on all the Fridays of the month to symbolize its support to the National Women’s Month cause, among others.
