DUBAI 13 March 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai commemorated International Women’s Day on 08 March 2019 at the Consulate General’s Rizal Hall with a forum entitled “Women and the Balance of a Global Migrant Society.”

Around 100 women from a cross section of the Filipino community in Dubai participated in the forum, which featured a talk on personality development, book reading of the stories of empowered Filipino women leaders in Dubai, a yoga session, and the film showing of 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival Entry “Rosario” starring Filipino actress Jennelyn Mercado.

In his welcome remarks, Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes emphasized the need for civil society to join discussions on the role of women in an increasingly borderless society, keeping in mind that women form the majority of migrants from the Philippines in the United Arab Emirates.

The Consul General also called upon the women leaders in the Community to be more vigorous in their campaign to empower other women thereby providing them greater opportunities for the society’s growth and development.

Dr. Yasmin Balajadia Cortes, spouse of the Consul General, added that it was crucial that women continue sharing their experiences as nurturers of humanity and as active contributors to the global migrant community. She also urged them to be more active in pushing the women agenda to the larger community. END
