PHNOM PENH 05 APRIL 2019 – In line with the celebration of National Women’s Month and International Women’s Day on 8 March 2019, the Philippine Embassy  in Phnom Penh opened a special women's lane in its consular section to prioritize female applicants and were given brochure of the Magna Carta of Women or Republic Act No. 9710, and were treated to some snacks.

During the month-long celebration, the female staff of the Embassy led the weekly flag retreat every Friday. They sang the special version of "Lupang Hinirang" developed by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW).

To cap off the celebration, the Embassy held a public screening of the movie “Si Chedeng at Si Apple” starring Gloria Diaz as Chedeng and Elizabeth Oropesa as Apple on 22 March 2019. The movie highlighted the importance of women empowerment, as the main characters take control of their lives and break free from society’s dictates.

The movie screening was made possible through the support of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). END
