MANAMA 11 November 2019 — In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Philippine Embassy in Manama, in cooperation with various Filipino community organisations in Bahrain, raised a total of BHD 380, 500 through its Sweets-for-a-Cause project on 20 October 2019 at the Embassy grounds.

PHILBAHMOMS, Alpha Kappa Rho Bahrain, Pinay, Ikaw Na!, and Triskelion International Kingdom of Bahrain Tau Gamma Sigma joined efforts for the breast cancer awareness drive. Participating individuals donned pink tops as a show of support for the said cause.

Ambassador to Bahrain Alfonso A. Ver enjoined Embassy personnel and clients to patronize the Sweets-for-a-Cause project. “Take an active role in raising awareness of the disease as it is one of the most prevalent diseases that is affecting not just women but men as well.”

Ministry of Health Cancer Specialist Nurse Mona Labnao gave a talk on breast cancer, discussing early detection, signs and symptoms, stages, and treatments of breast cancer before Embassy clients and wards at the Embassy’s Migrant Workers and Other Overseas Filipinos Resource Center. Labnao mainly emphasized the advantages of conducting regular self-breast examinations.

Rina Balantucas, OFW breast cancer patient and recipient of the proceeds of the Sweets-for-a-Cause project, gave a testimony on the struggles of a cancer patient and cancer victim’s family.

The Embassy extends its sincere appreciation to the generous donors, the organizations which rendered their invaluable support to the project, and the buyers. END
