ABU DHABI 05 December 2019 — Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Hjayceelyn M. Quintana served as a principal speaker at UAE’s Knowledge Summit 2019 on “Women on the Frontline and their Role in Empowering Other Women and Young Girls” held at the Dubai World Center on 19 November 2019.
Organized by the Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and the Prime Minister of the UAE, the sixth Annual Knowledge Summit sought to offer a global knowledge platform bringing together experts and decision-makers from around the world to exchange expertise and best practices in addressing sustainable development challenges.
Ambassador Quintana shared that the Philippines is at the forefront of promoting gender equality and has led public campaigns to counter violence against women (VAW). The ambassador also lauded the Emirates for leading the way in women’s representation, citing that half of the Federal National Council is made up of women.
“Violence against women could take many forms, including trafficking,” Ambassador Quintana said. “Empowering women means stopping violence against women and children. It is very important that girls grow up in a secure environment.” END
