GENEVA 09 December 2019 – The officers and staff of the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, led by its Permanent Representative to the WTO in Geneva Manuel A.J. Teehankee, expressed support for the 18-day campaign to end violence against women on 25 November 2019.

To kickstart the 18-day campaign, Third Secretary Anne Kristine D. Salvador explained Republic Act 9262, the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004, to the officers and staff of the Mission during its Monday huddle. A pamphlet describing the said legislation was also distributed. Everyone was encouraged to raise greater public awareness on the issues faced by women and children, so that measures to protect them from any form of harassment or discrimination may be pursued. The Mission will be hosting a luncheon on 12 December 2019 to celebrate the culmination of the 18-day campaign.

Similarly, the Canton of Geneva illuminated one of its famous landmarks, the Jet d’Eau, in orange on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. END
