HONOLULU 13 December 2019 — The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu joins the Philippine government’s 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) from 25 November to 12 December 2019.

With the theme “VAW-free community starts with me”, the campaign hopes to raise greater public awareness on the issues faced by this sector and encourage various stakeholders to work for greater empowerment and protection of the rights and welfare of women and children.

To show its support to the cause, the Consulate staff wore orange shirts on 25 November 2019. This is also in line with the call of the United Nations to use the color orange in addition to the use of the hashtags “#OrangeTheWorld” and “#GenerationEquality” to express support to the international call to end violence against women.

The Consulate also hosted a dialogue with women stakeholders on 26 November 2019 at the MAC 24/7 at Hilton Waikiki Beach. Representatives from the Hawai’i State Commission on the Status of Women, Domestic Violence Action Center (DVAC), women leaders of Filipino community organizations, successful women businessmen and professionals, members of media, and alumni of Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLRPO) will attend the gathering.

The Consulate is hopeful that the event will result to more programs and coordinated responses among the various stakeholders to address issues faced by women including discrimination and other gender-based violence. END
