PH Embassy in Yangon Organizes Self-Defense Workshop for Filipinos in Mandalay

YANGON 19 December  2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Yangon organized at the Eastern Palace Hotel, on 17 November 2019, a seminar-workshop on anti-sexual harassment and gender-based violence awareness with practical self-defense exercises.

Held for the Filipino community in Mandalay Region, the event had trainers from the Myanmar Women's Self Defense Center (MWSDC) to conduct the workshop.

Third Secretary and Vice Consul Stephanie Alexis A. Cruz informed the participants of the importance of learning about sexual harassment and how to defend oneself from sexual predators.

Myanmar Women's Self Defense Center instructor Ms. Evelyn Yu Yu Swe discussed the different types of sexual harassment in the home, workplace and in public places, and taught the participants things they can do if they encounter such a situation.

The participants also shared their personal experiences of harassment and how they handled the situation. After the talk, Ms. Yu Yu Swe taught the participants the different self-defense techniques, which they can use to defend and protect themselves during dangerous situations. END
