PH Consular General in LA Participates in Life-Saving Skills Seminar

LOS ANGELES 16 January 2020 –– The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles participated in a life-saving skills seminar dubbed, “Basic Training on First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)” on 03 November 2019 in Glendale, California.
The training was sponsored by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO)–Los Angeles in partnership with the Pilipino Workers Center (PWC).
Second Secretary and Vice Consul Joan Macrise Corrado, who represented the Consulate General in the event, commended POLO and PWC for organizing the training with the goal to produce capable respondents to emergency cases and advance the skills and qualifications of overseas Filipinos in Los Angeles.
Labor Attaché Armi Evangel N. Peña, in her remarks, explained that said training is one of POLO’s activities under its welfare protection and workers’ training program in the West Coast.
A certified instructor from the American Red Cross (ARC) Ms. Aleja Plaza, who was also a PWC volunteer, facilitated the whole-day training, which consisted of a series of lectures and demonstrations.
After the training, ARC conducted a written and practical exam to qualify the participants for an official certification.
Vice Consul Corrado was accompanied by the Consulate General’s Information Officer, Mary Grace “Joss” Leaño to the event.
PWC a Fil-Am community organization that actively collaborates with the Consulate General in providing responsive service to distressed Overseas Filipinos. END
