MOSCOW 18 February 2020 – The officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy in Moscow underwent a one-day training course on first aid and managing infections on 16 February 2020.  The training was given by certified rescue and firefighting personnel.

The training included making initial determinations on the state of an injured or ill person and providing initial care and necessary life-saving procedures before medical care is available. The officers and staff of the Embassy were taught how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as an emergency procedure and were given hands-on training on how to properly perform chest compressions and artificial ventilation. They were also taught how to deal with minor and major injuries and illnesses including wounds, bone fractures, burns, heatstroke, and frostbite, among others.

“This first aid training is essential not only for the safety of our personnel at the Embassy but also because we have been having several events at the Embassy with well over 1,000 guests and we need to be ready for any contingency. We also have an increasing number of nationals staying at our shelter as well as larger numbers of clients going to our Consular Section.  We need to make sure that they are safe and that we can provide first aid if needed,” Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta said.

The training was given by Aleksander Sashurin and Aleksey Skvorkin of OPSO SpasReserv, a public search and rescue squad composed of volunteers who are certified rescuers and firefighters. It has been authorized by the Russian Government to give training and conduct rescue operations. END
