YANGON 05 March 2020 – More than 70 Myanmar women donated their hair for Philippine cancer patients in an event hosted by the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar on 29 February 2020 at the Sule Shangri-La Hotel Yangon.

“Donate Your Hair Because You Care” is an event in commemoration of Philippine National Cancer Awareness Month which the Philippine Embassy in Yangon organized in partnership with Fancy House Academy. This charitable project started when Ms. Ei Ei Aung, a staunch advocate of helping cancer patients, requested the Embassy’s assistance in donating her hair to Makati Medical Center in the Philippines. This simple act of kindness and charity by a Myanmar woman towards Philippine cancer patients inspired the Embassy to create an event solely for this purpose.

With the goal of enabling Myanmar and Filipino women in Yangon to give a gift of themselves to women cancer patients and survivors in the Philippines, the Embassy partnered with Fancy House Academy, who provided donor participants with a free haircut during the event “Donate Your Hair Because Your Care”. A total of 57 participants enjoyed the free haircut during the event proper while 14 more women came to submit their already cut hair and observe the hair-cutting session. The Embassy was able to collect 71 packets of at least 9 inches of hair.

Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Eduardo "Red" Kapunan expressed his gratitude to the attendees for the overwhelming response, especially to Fancy House Academy for providing the eight hair stylists who worked non-stop during the event to help the Embassy in such a worthwhile endeavor.

All collected hair are donated to the Cancer Center of Makati Medical Center. END
