PH Embassy in Islamabad Celebrates International Women’s Month

ISLAMABAD 18 March 2020 – In celebration of the 2020 International Women’s Month, the Philippine Embassy in Islamabad conducted on 09 March 2020 a series of activities with the theme, “We Make Change Work for Women”.
Philippine Ambassador to Pakistan Daniel R. Espiritu led the launching of a photo exhibit showcasing significant and invaluable contributions of outstanding Filipinas in society. The photo exhibit highlighted Filipinas from different eras who, through their selfless sacrifices and extraordinary achievements, have become inspiration to modern Filipino women to uphold and advocate the importance of recognizing women empowerment in today’s society.
The featured Filipinas in the photo exhibit are Princess Purmasurri, Mary Grace Baloyo, Mona Sulaiman, Josefa Llanes Escoda, Marcela Marcelo, Gliceria Legaspi Marella de Villavicencio, Josefina Guerrero, Francisca Reyes Aquino, Josefa Llanes Escoda, Fe Villanueva Del Mundo, Estefania Aldaba-Lim, Honorata “Atang” Dela Rama, Haydee Coloso-Espino, Princess Permassuri of Sulu, Geronima Josefa Pecson, Natividad Almeda-Lopez, Honoria Acosta Sison, Lisa Macuja, and Lydia De Vega.
After the photo exhibit launch, United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Country Director for Pakistan and Afghanistan Dra. Maria Elena Borromeo conducted awareness lecture on HIV/AIDS.
The Embassy wrapped up the celebration with the film featuring “The Joy Luck Club”, a 1993 award-winning American drama film about the plight of three generations of women in immigrant communities.
Members of the Filipino community in Islamabad as well as Embassy personnel and their families participated in these activities. END
