CAIRO 11 December 2020 — The 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) is an advocacy campaign observed annually from 25 November to 12 December 2020.

For 2020, the Philippine Embassy in Cairo reached out to members of the Filipino community (FilCom) in Egypt, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Sudan to participate in this advocacy, in order to highlight their essence and role in creating a VAW-free community.

In Cairo, more than 350 orange VAW face masks were distributed to Filipinos and Egyptians.

In Ethiopia, FilCom members wore orange shirts and accessories, and invited their Ethiopian friends, colleagues and relatives to observe the VAW campaign; while in Djibouti, the Filipino in Djibouti Community (FDC) included the VAW campaign topic in their monthly meeting.

In Khartoum, select Filipino community members wore orange shirts in observance of the VAW campaign, while they met with officials of the IOM Sudan.

Every year, the Philippine Embassy in Cairo organizes activities to gather public support for the annual VAW campaign. END
