TACLOBAN CITY 14 December 2020 – In support with the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office (CO) in Tacloban conducted a Virtual Basic Self-Defense Training on 08 December 2020, in partnership with the Philippine Taekwondo Association – Tacloban Taekwondo Warriors.

The Consular personnel took a time-off during their holiday and actively participated in the two-hour training that happened through Zoom platform. Mr. Ian Guy-Joco, a Silver Medalist on Black Belt Masters Division and a member/instructor of the Philippine Taekwondo Association, spearheaded the discussion and demonstration of basic self-defense.

The discussion kicked-off with a brief introduction on the history of Taekwondo and how it started in the Philippines. The session focused on equipping the Consular personnel on knowledge and Taekwondo skills on how to defend and protect themselves against potential, aggressive attackers.

The said training also forms part of the Consular Office’s Gender and Development (GAD) program designed to bring awareness and pursue gender equality in all aspects of development. Through this effort, the Consular Office hopes that its personnel will imbibe an empowered spirit of hope that initiates, mobilizes, and protects the rights of women. END
