NAIROBI 10 June 2021 – A few weeks after the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi visited the Formation House run by the Poor Servants of Divine Providence based in Nakuru, Kenya on 19 May 2021 for its soap-making project, the children are already reaping the benefits of their new-found skill.

Filipino parish priest, Father Deem Virtudazo, thanked the Embassy for choosing them to be part of this project and also shared photos of the children proudly holding the soap bars they made.

This Gender and Development activity is part of the Embassy’s basic water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) advocacy, as well as a possible livelihood skill for the children in the Formation House.

The Formation House shelters abandoned and at-risk children, and provides basic education training to young girls from vulnerable socio-economic backgrounds.  They also provide basic education to those of school age and conduct livelihood and vocational trainings including bread making and honey cultivation to prepare the youth for their future outside the Formation House.

The Poor Servants of Divine Providence is a Catholic religious congregation, composed of Brothers and Priests and missionaries of Poor Sisters, founded by St. John Calabria in 1907 in Verona, Italy.  END
