16 June 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Yangon celebrated the 117th Anniversary of Philippine Independence with the Filipino community on June 07 at the Sule Shangri-La Hotel.

The Independence Day gathering evoked a poignant expression of patriotism among the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) during the heartwarming performance of Huseng Batute’s Bayan Ko and Francisco Santiago’s Pilipinas kong Mahal by a group of Filipino engineers with the Sedona Band. Other Filipino songs such as APO Hiking Society’s Batang Bata Ka Pa and ONL’s Pinoy Ako were also performed onstage.

In his opening speech, Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua thanked the Filipinos for their contribution to the development of the Philippines and furthering its relations with Myanmar through their world class skills and talents. He shared the good news of the improving Philippine economy, a result of the good governance platform of the Aquino administration.  Ambassador Chua invited everyone to view the exhibit of Philippine maps and reflect on the country’s independence.

The Philippine Independence Day was supported by Ayala Land International Sales, SM Development Corporation, and Global Sky. END
