Ankara EDSA

03 March 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Ankara commemorated the 28th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on February 24. Embassy personnel and members of the Ankara Filipino Community attended the event.

Philippine Embassy Consul Leilani S. Feliciano delivered the opening remarks on the theme “Kapit-Bisig Tungo sa Pagbangon!” on behalf of chargé d'affaires a.i. Robert Ferrer, Jr., who was currently on a consular mission in Istanbul. The theme reflects the national desire and collective will of all Filipinos to assist kababayans in Tacloban and Leyte provinces who have been devastated by the recent onslaught of Super Typhoon  Yolanda (Haiyan) in November 2013.

Consul Feliciano also explained the significance of the 1986 EDSA Revolution and how this seminal event changed the course of Philippine  history by restoring democracy and the rule of law, and inspired peaceful changes in government elsewhere in the world.  The Filipinos are now enjoying the fruits of the 1986 EDSA Revolution in the economic performance of the Philippines and in its vastly improved credit ratings.

The opening remarks was followed by a film showing which was introduced by  Cultural Officer Ms. Eunice P. Trinidad, which featured a  film entitled “Noy, a Filipino independent film released in 2010 following the campaign trail of top Presidential bet, Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino for 2010 Philippine National elections.  The film infused with actual footage inter-cut with dramatic scenes, deals with themes of poverty, survival and hope for the Filipino family.

The Ankara Filcom expressed their appreciation and stated that they  were deeply inspired about the film Noy. "Ang pelikulang ‘Noy’ ay sumasalamin sa buhay ng ating mga kababayan na sa kabila ng kahirapan ng buhay ay patuloy pa ring lumalaban, kapit-bisig tungo sa pagbangon para lamang mabigyan ng magandang buhay ang kanilang mga pamilya”, said Mrs. Jean Zaimoglu.
