Bulletin: On the Shooting Incidents in Brazil and in France
12 December 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) expresses its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the shooting incidents in Brazil and France.
Ambassador to Brazil Marichu B. Mauro and Ambassador to France Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro have informed the DFA Home Office that so far there have been no reports of any Filipinos among the dead and injured in the two incidents.
Ambassador Mauro reported that four people were killed after a gunman opened fire right after the midday services on Tuesday at the Metropolitan Cathedral in the city of Campinas, 100 kilometers north of Sao Paolo. Ambassador Mauro said the motive for the shooting is still being investigated as the gunman, who killed himself after the shooting, reportedly had no criminal record.
Ambassador Lazaro, on the other hand, said three people were killed and 12 others were wounded after a gunman opened fire close to a popular Christmas market in Strasbourg, 490 kilometers east of Paris, on Tuesday evening. Ambassador Lazaro added that the French government had categorized the incident as a terror attack and had raised the risk level to the highest category. END
