Public Advisory on the Situation in Hong Kong

30 July 2019 — In light of the ongoing mass protests and actions in Hong Kong, the Department of Foreign Affairs strongly advises Filipinos in or travelling to the territory to avoid areas where such protests are being held, considering the recent localized incidents of clashes, and to put their safety first and take all necessary precautions.

The Department encourages the public to monitor the pronouncements of the Hong Kong government and to heed the advice and instructions of local authorities.

The public is encouraged as well to monitor developments and in doing so, to rely on legitimate media entities and news sources, and to be discerning with respect to information obtained through social media.

The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong maintains open communication lines with the Hong Kong government regarding the situation, and will provide the corresponding notification to the public, as necessary.
