28 May 2015 – The Philippine Embassy in Abuja warns the public, overseas Filipinos workers (OFWs) in Nigeria, and kababayans of a reported scam in Accra, Ghana which operates through telephone lines or social networking sites in the Philippines to steal money from unsuspecting individuals.

The Philippine Embassy obtained information that certain Ghanaian perpetrators recruited a group of Ghanaian nationals to travel to the Philippines to process their Australian visas to work in some companies in Australia in consideration of the amount of US$5,000.00 for each excluding ticket costing US$2,000.00.

Several Ghanaian nationals have already been victimized by scam operators through schemes (modus operandi) promising and recruiting individuals to travel to the Philippines to process Australian visas by using telephone lines or social networking sites in the Philippines.

The Embassy urges Filipinos to exercise caution in communicating with unknown individuals through telephone lines or social networking sites, particularly in providing sensitive information and responding to untrusted telephone or internet offerings involving financial transactions. END
