Xiamen Bonifacio day celebration

12 December 2013 - On the occasion of the  150th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio,  the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen launched its commemoration  with a brief program  and opening of the exhibit on the life of  “Andres Bonifacio: The Revolutionary and the  Revolution” .

In his remarks,  Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores, stated that Bonifacio,  is often regarded as the Father of the Philippine Revolution because of his instrumental role in catalyzing the revolutionary movement for Philippine independence from Spain with his founding of the secret society, the Katipunan.  As the epitome of Filipino nationalism to the present generation of Filipinos,  Bonifacio sacrificed his young life to keep alive and eventually realize the quest for freedom from Spanish colonialism.

The exhibition was highlighted by the original oil painting featuring Bonifacio as done by visual artist, Rene Robles, as well as materials from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) . The event is part of the Consulate’s cultural diplomacy thrusts. END
