14 November 2013 - The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo has opened a condolence book at its Chancery for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), which struck the central Philippines last November 8, leaving a trail of lives lost and massive devastation.

The condolence book is open from Wednesday, November 13 until Friday, November 15, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Enrique Arias Barriga, who is visiting Japan on an official mission, became the first foreign official to sign the condolence book and convey his government’s sympathies, in the presence of Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manuel M. Lopez and Ecuadorian Ambassador to Japan Leonardo Carrión.

Ambassador Lopez and the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo continues to convey the sincere gratitude of the Philippine Government and the Filipino people to the Japanese Government and the diplomatic missions and international organisations in Japan for their messages of condolence and offers of assistance to Leyte and the other affected provinces.
