14 November 2013 - The Launch of the Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) Action Plan, was held in Geneva jointly with Manila, on November 12.
In Manila, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario, United Nations (UN) Undersecretary General and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos, and UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in the Philippines Luisa Carvalho made statements on the current humanitarian situation on the devastation wrought by Typhoon Haiyan. OCHA Representative in the Philippines presented the Typhoon Hainan Action Plan, which calls for USD 301 Million, to assist more than estimated 11.3 million people affected, 670,000 displaced.
In Geneva, OCHA-Geneva Officer-in-Charge Rudolf Muller and Philippine Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Mr. Denis Y. Lepatan reiterated the need to assist the people affected by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). OCHA has received USD 38 Million in assistance to date.
The Launch in Geneva was attended by Missions and International Humanitarian organizations such as Turkey, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Sweden, the European Union, the Holy See, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Canada, Indonesia, Thailand, New Zealand, Germany, Guatemala, Mexico, Algeria, Syria, Sri Lanka, Albania, Romania, the World Food Programme (WFP), Republic of Korea, the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Hungary, Tanzania, Austria, Malaysia, MSF, Australia, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Belgium, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Federeation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Italy, Morocco, Myanmar, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United States.
ICRC mentioned in their statement that it will, likewise, issue a similar flash appeal to its donors scheduled on November 15. END
