15 November 2013 - His Worship Denis Coderre, newly elected Mayor of Montreal, Quebec Province conveyed the sympathies of the people of Montreal, and their full support to the Filipino people by extending assistance and taking part in ongoing international relief effort to those affected by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
In a meeting on November 13 with the various leaders of the Filipino Community in Montreal and joined in by Consul General Eric Gerardo E. Tamayo, and officials of the Canadian Red Cross, Mayor Coderre turned over of CA$10,000 raised by the City Government to the Red Cross of Canada.
Consul General Tamayo briefed the Mayor on recent developments in the relief operations. The community leaders informed the Mayor that they have also programmed a series of fundraising activities in Montreal.
Consul General Tamayo conveyed the appreciation of the Ambassador in the City government’s efforts and noted the tremendous outpouring of support coming from Canadians across the country. Mayor Coderre noted the constructive role being played by the Filipino community in Montreal.
The Mayor assured of the Embassy of the continued support of the City and that his office would be prepared to facilitate other assistance that may be required both in the ongoing relief efforts and the subsequent rebuilding phase effort. END
