18 November 2013 - Upon instructions of Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali, Associate Professor Dr. Pichit Suvanprakorn, M.D., Vice Chair of the Princess Pa Foundation, presided over the presentation of royally-sponsored relief items for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in a ceremony held on November 15 at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ceremony was witnessed by Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia and Minister Edgar Badajos.
The Royally-sponsored relief items consist of mechanical and powdered water purifiers, tents, bags filled with meals-ready-to-eat (MRE), powdered-milk bottles, pre-fabricated roofing materials made out of recycled milk cartons, and personal-size toiletries for the typhoon victims. The mechanical water purifiers are portable and can be operated by foot pump if there is no electricity. The powdered water purifiers are mixed with water drawn from wells and even rivers to make it safe for drinking.
The relief items will be flown to Mactan Airbase by two Royal Thai Air Force C-130 aircraft. The first plane will depart on November 18 and the second on November 20.
In brief remarks, Ambassador Batoon-Garcia thanked the Royal Family, the Princess Pa Foundation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Royal Thai Air Force, and all those who made the donation possible. END
