18 November 2013 - Visiting Turkish Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Besir Atalay called on Vice President Jejomar C. Binay on November 12 at the Office of the Vice President at the Coconut Palace to personally convey the Turkish government's and people's sincere expressions of sympathy to and solidarity with the victims of Typhoon Yolanda and at the same time wished the Philippines' speedy recovery from the disastrous effects of the typhoon.
Deputy Prime Minister Atalay informed Vice President Binay that he, together with members of the Turkish Red Crescent Society, turned over earlier to the Philippine Red Cross the Turkish donations consisting of tents, blankets and kitchen sets. DPM Atalay also expressed his country's intention to donate food which will be sourced locally and if circumstances allow, he and his delegation wishes to visit the typhoon-stricken areas particularly Tacloban City.
For his part, Vice President Binay, on behalf of the Philippines, expressed deep appreciation for all the support and assistance of Turkey to the Philippines not only during this time of need but also in other areas such as the Mindanao peace process. DPM Atalay concurred that there are also other bilateral areas where Turkey and the Philippines can enhance further their cooperation and partnership.
DPM Atalay and his delegation left Manila for Turkey on November 15. END
