Brunei filipino community ecumenical prayer for typhoon victims1

19 November 2013 - An ecumenical prayer (“Pilipinas, Manalangin Tayo”) was held last November 13 at the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption (COLA) by members of the Filipino Community in Brunei Darussalam for victims of Typhoon Yolanda.

In his Welcome Remarks, Filipino community leader Alan Filio thanked all those who came to show support and solidarity with the country’s efforts at assisting the countless victims of typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) who are just coming to terms with the loss of their loved ones and property.

Minister and Consul Celeste Vinzon Balatbat provided a brief update on the ongoing relief efforts in Tacloban, Leyte and other areas in the Visayas affected by typhoon Yolanda. She further enumerated the items urgently needed by the survivors of the storm and announced the measures being undertaken by the Philippine Embassy in Brunei to assist victims of the storm. Lastly, she thanked the Government of Brunei Darussalam for mobilizing air and naval units to assist in humanitarian relief efforts as well as organizing a fund for the typhoon and earthquake victims in the Philippines.
