Seoul20 November 2013 - The Hana Financial Group, the parent company of the Korea Exchange Bank (KEB) and the Hana Bank, has made an aggregate donation of US$460,000 (Php 20 million) as immediate relief to the typhoon survivors, the Embassy of the Philippines in Seoul reported to the Department on November 18.

“On behalf of the Korea Exchange Bank, I offer our deepest condolences as your esteemed country wrestles with the devastation and loss of life that accompanied super typhoon Haiyan," said KEB President and CEO Yun Yong-ro in a letter of the same date addressed to Philippine Ambassador to South Korea Luis T. Cruz.

KEB and Hana Bank donated US$230,000 each to typhoon relief efforts. The amount will soon be turned over by the KEB Manila Branch to the Philippine Red Cross.
“We hope the government and the people of the Philippines overcome the aftermath of the disaster at the earliest date possible,” added Mr Yun.

The letter formally conveying the KEB’s decision to donate was personally handed at the Embassy on Monday to Ambassador Cruz, together with a basket of flowers, by senior representatives of KEB’s Foreign Customer Division: General Manager Park Jonglim and Relations Manager Lee Nahm-yon.

The KEB, which opened a branch in the Clark Special Economic Zone on September 4 this year, is the only Korea-based bank operating in the Philippines. END
