29 November 2013) – The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh was informed through MEN and International Projects Executive Director Nauf A. Al Rawaf, that the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation - Global,  has donated a total of US$ one million  to the victims of super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

“We are very thankful to the Foundation, and of course its chair, HRH Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal Al-Saud.  Alwaleed Foundation’s donation is expected to help facilitate the massive relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts required in the affected areas. The foundation’s humanitarian assistance is yet another affirmation of the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s generosity and fraternity with the Filipino people,” Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ezzedin Tago remarked.

The Foundation is currently transferring part of the funds to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), one of the lead government agencies tasked with relief and rehabilitation efforts in the typhoon-ravaged areas of central Philippines.

Part of the donation will also go to UNICEF and the World Food Programme to support the affected communities.

In 2009, Alwaleed Foundation supported the Philippines through a donation for medical aid to the victims of Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana).  The foundation also supported the Muslim Mindanao Integrated Higher Development Center (CHED-ARMM) in capacity-building, research and scholarships. END
