04 December 2013 - Assistance for the victims of typhoon Yolanda continues to pour from Singapore almost a month after the tragedy that struck eastern and central Visayas.
Over the last three (3) days, Ambassador Minda Calaguian-Cruz and officials of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore have been attending events spearheaded by Filipino community and Singapore-based organizations that aimed to raise awareness on the plight of Yolanda victims or to directly raise funds to support relief efforts in the areas affected by the typhoon.
Funds that were generated from these events were turned over to either Singapore-based relief organizations such as the Singapore Red Cross and Mercy Relief or directly to the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Philippines.
“Flashmob”
“Flashmob,” An Awareness Event for the Benefit of the Victims of typhoon Haiyan (Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., November 30, Open Space, Lucky Plaza, Orchard Hotel). This was organized by Filipino community members with the support of Rotary Club E and Rotary Foundation Singapore and Shelter Box Singapore. The event featured performances by selected Filipino choirs from churches in Singapore and individual Filipino performing artists with the special participation of an Indonesian choir.
4th Foreign Domestic Workers Day, Singapore Polytechnic Convention Centre
(Sunday, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Sunday, 1 December 2013).
This was organized by the Foreign Domestic Worker Association for Skills Training (FAST) Singapore to recognize the contribution of foreign domestic workers (FDWs) in Singapore with Mr. Hawazi Daipi, Member of Parliament and Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower, as guest of honor.
Ambassador Calaguian-Cruz witnessed the ceremonial turnover of a cheque worth $10,000 was made by Mr. Daipi, FAST President Mr. William Shea and other officials to the Deputy Secretary General of the Singapore Red Cross, Mr. Lim Thean Poh. There were also pledges for more donations amounting to $30,000.00 for the typhoon victims.
Learnathon 2013, Shaw Convention Center, Beach Road, Singapore

This event, organized by Mr. Patrick Liew, CEO of HSR Singapore is a seminar on wealth management that targets to raise $100,000.00 to support the relief efforts.
Mr. Zainudin Nordin, Member of the Singapore Parliament, was guest of honor. Mr. Liew also auctioned one of his personal paintings for the charity during the seminar. END
