6 December 2013 – The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already pledged one million euros in aid for the victims of typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) and has sent a medical team from the Italian Department of Civil Protection to help in the government-led relief efforts in Visayas.

In a telephone conversation with Ambassador Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr. on November 12, the Italian Foreign Minister expressed her deep condolences for the devastating effects of typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

The World Food Programme (WFP), for its part, mobilized shipments of food supplies and provided logistics and telecommunications support in the affected areas.

Representatives of Diplomatic Missions in Rome also visited the Philippine Embassy to write messages of sympathy and support for the Philippines in the Book of Condolences opened from November 12 to 14. END
