06 December 2013—The Philippine Embassy in Cairo reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that Filipinos in Cairo pulled resources together to raise and donate funds for victims of Typhoon Yolanda.
On November 16, a benefit dinner dubbed “A night for the Philippines” was organized by Filipino expatriates in Cairo and their friends. The benefit event which featured donated foods, entertainment and auction items, raised a total of USD $23,198.74, which was remitted to the Philippine National Red Cross on November 20.
The group of Filipino organizers included Mikael and Rhea Jacob, Ram and Loida Sehgal, Stephane and Phoebe David, Helly Soliman, Denden Alcantara, Lito Bermudez, Ronald and Minette Gatchalian, Cecille Reyes, Fides Urbiztondo, Dodo and Johanna Banzon, Boyet and Tates Pecson.
On November 29, the Facebook Group “Filipinos in Egypt” organized a bowling tournament participated in by 94 players and attended by 238 Filipinos and friends. The tournament, which also featured T-shirt and food sales and karaoke singing, raised USD 5,610, which was remitted to the Philippine Red Cross on December 03.
The group includes Nova Beatriz Madkour, Oscar and Necy Thiam, Nestor and Lye De Vera, Marilou Gerones, and Edgar Rambaoa. END
