06 December 2013- The Philippine Embassy in Madrid in coordination with the Filipino community organized a special mass for the victims of typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). The Mass was held on November 17 at the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Espino, where majority of the city’s Filipino Catholics regularly attend masses.
The mass was celebrated by Msgr. Cesar Franco, Auxilliary Bishop of Madrid, and co-celebrated by 9 other priests, one of whom was fr. Vicente Castro, Chaplain of Filipino Tahanan Center.
Some family members of the victims of the typhoon participated in the offertory and four of them gave their personal testimonies. The collection from the Mass will be donated to the victims of the typhoon through Caritas Philippines.
In his remarks, Ambassador Carlos C. Salinas acknowledged the support of the Filipino community in Madrid in the government’s relief efforts. He also extended his sympathies to the members of the Filipino community in Madrid whose families were affected by the devastation caused by the typhoon. He also encouraged everyone to keep in their thoughts and prayers our Government leaders and our kababayans. END
