09 December 2013 - The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka received on November 26, through the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Dhaka, the decision of the Government of Sri Lanka to send a team of medical personnel to assist individuals and families affected by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in the Philippines’ central regions.
The Sri Lankan Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Foreign Affairs have been coordination with each other through their respective diplomatic missions for the immediate travel to the Philippines of the 24-member Sri Lankan medical team, with Plan International’s Mr. Rameshkumar Satgunathan.
The Sri Lankan Ministry of Health will also be sending medicines, medical devices and other equipment. The assistance is being coordinated with the Philippine Department of the Health (DOH) for evaluation and assessment so that the Sri Lankan assistance will be assigned to the places which are most in need of the assistance to be provided by the team.
