Agana government of Guam donation

10 December 2013 - Guam Governor Eddie B. Calvo presented a check of US $77,295.02 last November 27 at the Office of the Governor, as the “GuamGov” family’s donation to the Filipino community of Guam to help in ongoing relief efforts for Filipinos devastated by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

The funds were raised by "Operation Guam Cares", a group composed of all the agencies of the government Guam, along with the assistance of the Ayuda Foundation and some private businesses.

The money was collected over the past two weeks from donations raised through a boot drive and a pledge drive along with school fundraisers. The funds will be used to purchase medicine and medical supplies that are much needed by typhoon victims.

Consul General Bayani V. Mangibin was on hand to accept the check from Governor Calvo together with Mr. Roy Adonay, President of the Filipino Community of Guam (FCG), Mr. Emelio Uy, FCG Board of Trustees Chairman, and other officers and members of FCG and other Filipino organizations on Guam. Also in attendance was former Senator Nikki Coseteng, who was visiting the island and had a call on the Governor.

Governor Calvo was accompanied by Guam Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio, Mr. Jon Fernandez Superintendent, Guam Department of Education (DOE), and other officials of the Guam Government.

Governor Calvo praised the contributions of the Filipino community to Guam's own prosperity, and  he said that it is only right that we should give back to the Philippines in their time of need.

The Governor’s Office led the efforts with all the executive branch agencies.  Boot drives were held and pledge forms were passed among government employees.  The boot drives and the donations from GovGuam employees exceeded $51,000.  Additionally, the Department of Education held various events in the schools to raise money.  DOE alone donated around $25,000 to the cause.
