12 December 2013 – The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou informed the Department of Foreign Affairs of the efforts conducted by some individuals and organizations in Guangzhou to help the victims of super typhoon Yolanda.
During the opening of the condolence book at the Consulate General from November 18 to 19, the Consuls General of Switzerland and Mexico in Guangzhou handed their offices’ monetary donations for the victims of typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
The Consulate General also received reports of donations and fundraising activities conducted by
individuals and organizations in Guangzhou including that of Mr. Wason Wethayawanich, Counsellor (Customs) of the Royal Thai Consulate General in Guangzhou for the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, and from the officers and staff of Guangzhou Fuda Medical Co. Ltd. a.k.a. Fuda Cancer Hospital through the Philippine Red Cross.
A symbolic turn-over of the donation worth RMB 50,000 (or Php 355,000.00) was held on November 16 at the premises of Fuda Cancer Hospital.
The Filipino Community in Guangzhou (FilCom GZ), in partnership with Gen Ex Cargo, also conducted a one-day donation drive where in-kind donations from individuals and various organizations were accepted, repacked and turned-over to Gen Ex Cargo for free shipment to Manila. The Philippine Consulate General served as a drop-off point for this activity. Seventeen (17) boxes of assorted humanitarian goods were delivered to ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya. END
